Town of Groton

Taxes are mailed by the Town Clerk/Tax Collector so that you will receive them soon after January 1st. Full payments are due by January 31st without penalty.  First installments are also due by January 31st and can not be accepted by law after January 31st. 

 

Taxes are payable to April L. Scheffler Tax Collector until April 2, 2012. 

Second installments and any payments after April 2, 2012, are  payable to Tompkins County Finance, 125 East Court St.,  Ithaca, NY 14850  Telephone: (607) 274-5545.

 

If you have an escrow account, your bill will be mailed directly to your bank.

 

If you don’t have an escrow account and do not receive your tax bill by January 6, 2012, please call the Clerk’s office at (607) 898-5035 and request that another copy be sent to you.  Please remember that even if your bill is lost in the mail or you do not receive it for any reason, you still are responsible to pay it before the due date or a penalty will be charged. 

 

Important Notice for Senior Citizen Taxpayers

Your deadline for paying GROTON Town & County 2012 Taxes on YOUR RESIDENCE

is extended to Tuesday, February 6, 2012 without penalty

BUT ONLY if you meet the following criteria:

 

  1. You MUST already have a Town  or County Senior Exemption or an Enhanced STAR Exemption. (65 or older & under a certain income)
  2. Applies ONLY to YOUR RESIDENCE, which must be in the Town or Village of Groton.
  3. Applies ONLY to FULL PAYMENTS
  4. If you choose to make a partial payment, you must do so by January 31st.
  5. Applies only to GROTON Town & County 2012 Taxes. 

MAKE SURE YOU QUALIFY - Any non-qualifying payment after January 31 will be charged the late fee.

CALL April or Robin at 607-898-5035 TODAY to see if you qualify for this extension!

All qualifying Senior Citizen bills paid after February 6 will be charged the late fee.

 

 

Assessment Review

The Local Advisory Board of Assessment Review Meeting will be sometime in May from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Groton Town Hall.  Anyone who feels that their assessment is unfair may attend this meeting and present a grievance.  Forms may be obtained at the Town Clerk’s Office, the Tompkins County Assessment Office or by following this link:
